How I Easily Beat the Foot Pain Every Nurse Warned Me About In Just Minutes

"I take care of everyone on that floor.
GraceField takes care of me."

I've been a nurse for eleven years. Med-surg, mostly.

You'd think after this long, I'd be used to it. The standing. The walking. The 12-hour shifts where you don't sit down except to chart.

But somewhere along the way, my feet stopped bouncing back.

It started small. Sore feet by the end of a shift. Normal stuff, I told myself.

Then it wasn't just sore. It was killing me. Every step on the way to my car felt like walking on bruises.

Then my ankles started swelling before I even got home.

I never once thought about myself during a shift. I was too busy taking care of everyone else. My patients. My team. Whoever needed me at 3am.

My own feet were the last thing on my list, until they wouldn't let me ignore them anymore.

I tried everything nurses are supposed to try.

New shoes. I've owned probably six pairs of "nurse-approved" sneakers at this point.

Compression socks, which actually did help some but not after work. Insoles.

The whole foot-bath-and-Epsom-salt thing a few nights a week.

None of it was useless, exactly.

But none of it touched the real problem.

I'd still get home most nights with my feet throbbing and my legs feeling like they were filled with concrete.

As soon as I sat down, it was over.

About 6 weeks ago, I'd just finished a run of three 12s in a row.

I was completely nuked.

I got home around 7:40, kicked my shoes off in the doorway before I even said hi.

My husband looked up from the couch. "Rough one?"

I didn't answer right away. I just sat down and stared at the wall.

"You've been coming home like this a lot lately," he said. Not annoyed. Just noticing.

I didn't know what to say. I didn't want to admit my feet were controlling my whole evening.

Or admit that I had nothing left for him, or for our daughter, who'd asked me twice that week to walk with her after dinner and heard "not tonight" both times.

I just said I was fine.

I wasn't.

I remember thinking, I can't keep doing this for another fifteen years.

An older nurse in my unit said something I couldn't ignore.

The next shift, I mentioned it to Carol. Almost thirty years in, still moves faster than the new grads half her age.

We were sitting in the break room, feet up on chairs, and I said something about my ankles killing me again.

She just laughed. "You need to get yourself an ankle massager from GraceField."

I'd never heard of it.

She said it was a heated wrap which warms your ankles and it has a gentle massage right where your arch and ankle actually take the beating.

"Heat gets the blood moving again after standing all day," she said.

"And the massage works out the tension you build up in your arches and ankles. It's not medicine. It's just what your feet actually need after a shift like ours."

She said she puts hers on the second she gets home, before she even changes out of her scrubs.

"It's not gonna fix your job," she said.

"But it gets me from wrecked to human again."

I was hesitant. I'd already spent money on things that didn't do much.

But Carol's not the type to hype something up for no reason. What did I have left to lose?

In just minutes, my feet felt like mine again.

The first evening after a long, exhausting shift I tried it, I didn't expect much.

I wrapped it around my ankles and let the heat sink in.

Within a few minutes, I could actually feel my feet again, not the throbbing kind, the good kind.

The massage was subtle, right where I was sorest.

I sat there for twenty minutes and didn't think about work once, it was like heaven!

It made sense once Carol explained it.

Warmth is known to help blood flow to tired, tense muscles, and gentle massage helps loosen up the stiffness that builds up after standing all day.

That's really all it's doing, giving my feet the same kind of relief a physical therapist would, just at home, right when I need it most.

Six weeks later, my evenings actually belong to me again.

I use it almost every shift now, the second I get home, before anything else.

My ankles don't lock up by morning anymore. I'm not losing my first day off to recovery.

And the biggest thing is that I actually have something left for my family when I walk through the door.

My daughter and I went for that walk again last week.

For the first time in months I didn't have to say no.

My final thoughts on GraceField.

I'm not going to pretend a wrap around your ankles fixes everything hard about this job. It doesn't.

Nursing is still nursing.

But I finally have something that helps me leave the shift behind instead of carrying it home with me.

If you're a nurse and you know exactly what I'm talking about, the swelling, the ankles, coming home with nothing left to give then GraceField is worth trying.

Last I checked, they still had a launch discount running for nurses.

I'm not sure how long that'll last, but if your feet feel anything like mine did, don't wait around like I did.

I'd come home after a double completely destroyed. Tried heating pads, compression socks, all of it. This is the first thing that actually helped my feet recover the same night. I use it after every single shift now.

My feet and ankles used to scream at me the moment I sat down after a shift, but the warmth and massage together actually made a real difference and my legs feel noticeably less heavy the next morning. ❤️

8

After long shifts my ankles were completely shot and nothing ever really helped, since I start using this massager I actually have energy left for my family instead of just collapsing on the couch. ❤️❤️

9

I'm not saying it magically fixed everything, I just finally found something that consistently helps my feet recover between shifts without any effort at the end of an already exhausting day🫠

5

I used to dread taking my compression socks off after a shift because I knew what was coming, this has completely changed that moment and is now the first thing I do when I get home.

9

If you know what it feels like to come home after three 12s with absolutely nothing left, you know this is the first thing that actually became a real part of my after-shift routine.❤️❤️

Bought a pair for me and one for my mom who works in the hospital. It has become her little comfort ritual before bed 🤍
